“Nail polish designed for use in pregnancy and beyond.”
I was very excited when I discovered Polished Mama. I was in search of nail polish that would be safe for my family and eco-friendly when I came across Polished Mama. I contacted the owner, and we both knew we’d be a perfect fit.
I received a bottle of “Praying For Sunshine” (the story behind the name by Kristin the creator of Polished Mama, “Sliding my son out of his co-sleeper for the 6th time that night to nurse, seeing that the sky was finally turning from black to purpley blue. Sunrise is near.”), it’s a pretty purple color. I put it on and I loved it, NO SMELL! Plus it goes on so smoothly. After following the directions of putting it on and letting it dry properly I decided to do a “chip test”. I worked with my hands on many household tasks with little to no chipping.
I was happy to be able to put the polish on around my children and know I wasn’t hurting them with bad fumes. I also love that I can put it on my oldest daughter and not worry about her putting her fingers in her mouth or being too close to the bad smells. She loves wearing nail polish. Now she can wear it anytime without mommy worrying. This polish makes my husband happy as well, he isn’t complaining about the smell.
Polished Mama also sent me a bottle of their eco-friendly moisturized polish remover. It works very well at removing the polish off my nails AND it smells so good. The smell of it reminded me of a Piña Colada; one of my favorite tropical drinks.
I would recommend Polished Mama to every woman. Not just pregnant women or women with children but to every woman. It’s so nice to know the polish is eco-friendly and family-friendly.
More on Polished Mama-
The Polished Mama product line was started by Kristin Polston, a registered nurse in labor and delivery, internationally board certified lactation consultant, wife, mother to a toddler, and nontoxic nail polish proponent!
“When I became pregnant, just the idea of getting near smelly nail polish was a reason to keep my nails unpainted. When I came across a study about phalates in nail polish and their potential harm to fetuses, that was the day the idea for Polished Mama was born.” -Kristin Polston, BSN, RN, IBCLC
Polston Enterprises, located in Pennsylvania, and its sister company Mad River Science in California have been on the forefront of water-based nail polish technology. With a PhD in organic chemistry and decades of research and development in water-based coatings Dr. Norman Polston began working with water-based nail polish long before the movement toward nontoxic cosmetics began. The culmination of his work is a state of the art nontoxic, no odor nail polish that contains no toxic
chemicals including DBP, parabens, formaldehyde and toluene used by conventional polish manufacturers.
Working with Dr. Polston, (his daughter-in-law) Kristin has created a line of his polish specially designed for use by mothers during pregnancy and beyond. Called Polished Mama, with names apropos of motherhood like “Craving” and “Stretch Mark”, it’s clear that this mama behind Polished Mama knows her way around the world of pregnancy and babies! As the mother of a born-at-home nursling, and a bachelors prepared registered nurse, Kristin respects the need to stay away from chemicals that could leech into breast milk and even amniotic fluid. Kristin is compassionate about the well being of the mother-baby dyad and has used this passion as the creative push behind Polished Mama.
Polished Mama made its debut at the March 2008 Mom 2B Trade Show in Las Vegas, sparking much press and enthusiasm from buyers. Polished Mama is being sold by maternity shops and e-tailers and has been given The Baby Planners Seal of Approval™. A pregnancy concierge service, Capitol Moms™ located in Washington DC, promotes Polished Mama to their clients saying: “Let’s shout Hooray for Polished Mama Nail Care Products! Nontoxic, no odor, long wearing polish in beautiful colors, what more could you ask for in a polish? Not much…”
The popular and oh-so-hip blog A Mom in Red High Heels has been spreading the word about Polished Mama: “If you want to be more conscientious about your beauty product choices, Polished Mama products are an excellent place to start. I’m all for breathing while I do my nails!”
Ever color has a story, each story fits perfectly with the color.
