Flight to Heaven- book review

I recently finished reading “Flight to Heaven” by Capt Dale Black. This book is about a man who should have died in a plane wreck but lived and has an amazing recovery. All praise to God.

First off I want to say I LOVED this book. I told myself every night that I would only read for 30 min but I’d end up reading for 2 hours. Capt Dale Black draws you in. You want to know what happens next and how God was working through him.

When Capt Dale Black was 19 he was in a plane wreck where two other men died and the plane disintegrated. Dale should have been dead but he survived. For 3 days he was in a coma, and when he woke up he couldn’t remember what had happened and why he was in the hospital. The doctor told him he would need to stay in the hospital for 8 months and those 8 months turned into only 8 days! Miracle after Miracle continued to happen to Dale. His journey to recovery wasn’t easy and it wasn’t all ups. But Dale continued to look towards God and praised God for all he went through.

Part of this book Capt Dale Black shares with us is his journey to heaven. And although he says human words can’t even begin to describe what what he saw/experienced/felt, he tried his best to share it with us. This was the part of the book I couldn’t put down. I kept thinking “someday I will get to be a part of this and I can’t wait!”

Something inspiring about this book is how Dale “saw” the world when he woke up from his coma. He felt love and compassion to complete strangers. He wanted them all to know the love and joy of Jesus.
On one of his visits to the hospital for one of his surgeries he met a man named Mr. Green. What he said to this man is what I pray I will have the boldness to say to others. Below is a paragraph of what he said:

“Mr. Green, do you know Jesus Christ? He’s the reason I’m alive. He has given me joy like I never knew before. I have purpose in my life now, Mr. Green. D you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?… It’s never too late, Mr. Green. It’s never too late to allow God to take your life and turn it into something beautiful. God’s time is now. Let’s get forgiveness for the past mistakes. God says in His Word that when you ask Him to forgive you, your sins are thrown away, as far as the east is from the west. In other words, He forgets them! It’s, Mr. Green. Give God your life now and you’ll forever be glad you did.”

After a full recovery, Capt Dale Black has flown for over 40 years, 1000’s of airline flights and 1000’s of mission flights.

Capt Dale Black’s life has brought me to think of my own life and the excuses I always say to why I shouldn’t share the love of Jesus, when I should be looking for those to share with. There are no excuses.

Trust in God and He will give you the words and strength. Surrender to Him fully, rest in Him.

PLEASE I encourage you all to find this book and read it. Your life will never be the same.
