“Same Life, New Story- Change Your Perspective to Change Your Life” by Jan Silvious
“Move from what is to what can be by changing how you think and talk to yourself.
Using powerful character studies of ten women from Scripture, as well as modern-day stories from her work as a professional life coach, Bible teacher Jan Silvious helps women choose new stories instead of dumping, or wallowing in, their old lives.
Naomi, Leah, Rahab, Deborah, Hannah, Anna, Jehosheba, Abigail, Naaman’s servant girl, and Elizabeth round out the cast of characters who, with their own stories, help readers find new perspectives with amazing results.”
I am the first one to say before reading this book I would always say “I wish I could change the path of my life. Is this all there is to my life?” My life seemed to be in a rut. I lived with a lot of negativity, fears and business in my life. But what could I do, this is life right?
This book is a 10 week study, 10 chapters talking about 10 different women in the Bible. Although I read this book in just 2 weeks I plan on going back through it and using it as a 10 week study. At the end of each chapter are study questions and help guide.
This book shows you several times in the Bible, women who thought that this was all to there life. But God had different plans, we just need to let Him take control.
The chapter that hit me the most would be the first chapter following Naomi’s life. Her husband died, both her sons died and she thought she should let her daughter-in-laws go. But Ruth stayed with her. Naomi lived in fear of the future and what was to come. She sort of played to “neglected” me part, but soon learned of a whole new life God for her. Naomi’s life inspires me and I can only hope I can follow in her steps in allowing God to change my life.
This is a great book and I recommend this to every Christian women. I would even suggest using it as a group Bible study. I believe through this book and prayer a woman’s Bible study is perfect to help change your life. But if you don’t have time for a group Bible study you can still get a lot out of this book.
