“Remembering Christmas” by Dan Walsh
“Rick Denton lives his life on his terms. He works hard, plays hard, and answers to no one. So when his mother calls begging him to come home after his stepfather has an aneurysm, Rick is more than a little reluctant. What was supposed to be just a couple days helping out at the family bookstore turns into weeks of cashing out old ladies and dealing with the homeless guy who keeps hanging around the store. The one bright spot is the lovely and intriguing young woman who works at his side each day.
As Christmas nears, Rick’s old life beckons, the hurts from his past loom large, and the decisions he makes will determine more than just where he spends Christmas Eve.”
Rick is a bitter man. A lot of his bitterness comes from his past and the lies he believes in his head. He is taken away from a skiing trip around Thanksgiving to help out his mom and step-dad at their Christian book store when Art(step-dad) is hospitalized with a life threatening problem.
While working at the store he starts to feel some changes in himself. but it’s not until the truth comes out that a huge change is made. Only 2 days after this big change in his life he is brought back into his old, negative environmental. Both his mom and the new women i his life are worried he will fall into his old ways and thoughts. But Art is trusting in God to keep him on the straight path.
This book was a bit hard for me to get into but about 5 chapters in I was too hooked to stop. It’s a really cute book and if you like Christian romance and Christmas books I know you’ll love this one. The characters are easy to fall in love with. I even cried a few times throughout the book hoping the best for each of them. Even for the homeless guy named JD. I was so sad when Rick was so mean to him, after Art had worked so hard to build a relationship with him.
Perfect for this time of year, I would recommend this book. It’s a short easy read and will make you say “awwww”. So grab a cup of tea and a cozy blanket and enjoy.
