KWS 2012/13 Season Launch Event‏

posted in Canada, Kitchener Waterloo on by

Last night I had the privilege to be part of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony 2012/13 Season Launch party. Where we got to learn about what is coming for this next season. Like last year there was a caterer, Little Mushroom Catering, which serves amazing refreshments we could enjoy while mingling and also watching the presentation.

To introduce the “Signature Series” Mr. Edwin Outwater had the principal Oboe player, James Mason play a piece. It was so beautiful and really got me excited for this coming season.

The “Signature Series” will include-
-Ode to Joy, Ode to Kitchener (Sept 21 & 22)
-Lefevre’s Romantic Discovery (Oct 26 & 27)
-Edwin & Gustav:An Invitation (Nov 30 & Dec 1)
-Sublime Beethoven (Jan 18 & 19, 2013)
-Epic Tchaikovsky (Feb 22 & 23, 2013)
-Organ Superstar (April 5 & 6, 2013)
-Viennese Delights (May 3 & 4, 2013)
-Finale Fantastique (May 31 & June 1, 2013)

The next series that was introduced was the “Pop Series”. Principle Trumpeter, Larry Larson. He played a beautiful rendition of “Someone to Watch Over Me” by Gershwin. I LOVE Gershwin music and I got goose bumps the minute he started to play. I think this is the concert I look forward to the most. In fact there are three concerts in the “Pop Series” alone I want to see very badly.

I look forward to Sci-Fi Fantasy: An Evening of Blockbusters, An All-Gershwin Evening, and Disney in concert.

The “Pop Series” will include-
-Last Night at the Proms (Spet 28 & 29)
-Sci-Fi Fantasy: An Evening of Blockbusters (Nov 2 & 3)
-Yuletide Spectacular (Dec 14 & 15)
-An All-Gershwin Evening (Jan 25 & 26, 2013)
-Disney in Concert- Magical Music From the Movies (March 1 & 2, 2013)
-Pierre Schryer (March 22 & 23, 2013)
-Cirque De la Symphonie (April 26 & 27, 2013)
-Tap! (May 24 & 25, 2013)

To help people who can’t make it out to evening performances and for families with young children the K/W Symphony has put together a “Matinee Series” compiled of a few selections from a couple of the other series.

The “Matinee Series” will include-
-Ode to Joy, Ode to Kitchener (Sept 23)
-Yuletide Spectacular (Dec 15)
-Intimate Tchaikovsky (Feb 24, 2013)
-Disney in Concert- Magical Music From the Movies (March 2, 2013)
-Viennese Delights (May 5, 2013)
-Tap! (May 25, 2013)

Another Series I’m excited about is the “Specials” they are presenting. I would love to bring my family to the Bugs Bunny at the Symphony and I know a few of my friends would love to join me and seeing Barenaked Ladies Greatest Hits and Holiday Songs.

The “Specials!” will include-
-Barenaked Ladies Greatest Hits and Holiday Songs (Dec 16)
-Tchaikovsky Festival (Epic Tchaikovsky- Feb 22 & 23, 2013) (Intimate Tchaikovsky- Feb 24, 2013)
-Bugs Bunny at the Symphony (May 16, 2013)

The “Intersections Series” will include-
-Penelope (Oct 11 & 12)
-Bollywood and Beyond: Masters and Icons of Indian Music (Feb 7 & 8, 2013)
-Barely Naked: An Evening with the Brothers Creeggan (April 11 &12, 2013)

The “Intersections Series” is another series I can’t wait for.
I think all three sound really amazing. However I have a special place in my heart for Bollywood and it’s music. I can’t wait to hear classical Indian music to what we now think of when we think of Indian style of music.

The “Baroque & Beyond Series” was introduced by Catherine Anderson with her deep, wonderful Cello solo. I LOVE the cello a lot as it’s very similar to the music Bass Clarinet plays(at least when I was in a symphonic band, we usually had a similar sound and pieces). I love the low string sound, it just fills my heart up and Ms Anderson did wonderfully.

The “Baroque & Beyond Series” will include-
-Take a Bow (Oct 3, 5 & 6)
-Haydn’s Wife? (Nov 21, 23 & 24)
-Dance Party (Jan 30, Feb 1 & 2, 2013)
-Q & A (May 8, 10 & 11, 2013)

A section I’d LOVE to take my kids to would be their Kinderconcerts for ages 5 and under (Kindercarmen- Oct 13 & 27)(Buzzing Brass- Feb 2 & 9)(Goldilocks & the Three Musical Bears- Apr 13 & 27). Also for ages 4 to 12 and their Families is the Family Series. (Major Mitchell Salutes Melody- Oct 27)(Drums, Drums, Drums!- Jan 19)(The Harmony Factory- May4). And for all Friends and families the Youth Orchestra (Nov 3, Jan 26 & Arp 27). There is something for everyone in the family and these events will encourage your kids even at a young age to fall in love with music.

Over all I think this season is going to be amazing. There is so much I can’t wait to see and I can’t wait to share with you guys. I had tons of fun at the launch party. I’m also happy Edwin Outwater was so willing to take a picture with me. it helps me remember this great event.
