David Edwards’ Thoughts-
“The Reason” by William Sirls

A cross in front of a small country church is struck by lightning during a sudden storm in the
opening chapter of this book. How that incident brings together a group of doctors and the
church family is the basis of this first novel by William Sirls.

You will recognize the characters in this novel if you just look around in your own everyday
life. We all know the person who thinks they have it all under control, the single mother, the
loud-mouthed bully and many others that are represented in this book. One by one they are all
confronted by the message ‘Only believe’. Can they do that or will they go their own way?

William Sirls was once a senior vice president at a major investment firm who was incarcerated
in 2007 for money laundering and wire fraud. While in prison he finally found the time to realize
what his life was missing and what was really important. That helped to shape and fill out this
story that he had started years before.

I was drawn into this story quickly and felt a connection with the characters. The simple message
of ‘Only believe’ is not easy to do but it is something each of us should do every day.

If you read this book, pay attention to Chapter 13, very interesting. I almost missed it.
