“Firefly Island” by Lisa Wingate
“Firefly Island” is the third book in the Moses Lake books. I had read “Blue Moon Bay” and fell in love with Lisa Wingate’s writing and with Moses Lake. This third book did not disappoint.
The story revolves around Mallory, a women who works on Capitol Hill and loves her life. Little did she know that she would find love, and at first sight. Daniel and his son, Nick, quickly become part of Mallory’s life. The one day Daniel is offered an amazing offer to work with a big shot guys named, Jack West. He will be moving to Texas, Moses Lake, and helping create seeds that will be able to be planted in tough conditions, hoping to help areas and countries that lack in craps to survive. Upon moving there, all three of them find they are put into a lot of uncomfortable situations. Mallory doesn’t trust Jack West. Nick’s only friend is a dog and Daniel is working outrageous hours. Then one day Jack’s son shows up. Things start to look better for them all, but soon their world is turned upside down, people’s lives are in danger.
I really loved reading this book. I couldn’t put it down. And when I did put the book down I would dream of Moses Lake and the people there. In fact, I finished this book over a week ago and I still dream about it. Lisa Wingate does an excellent job at describing the area and people and has a knack at making you become attached to the characters.
Although this is the third book, you don’t have to read the others to really get into it. It does help in building your imagination of the town, but does not affect the storyline. I really hope there will be more Moses Lake books and I hope that the author will continue on with the storyline that “Firefly Island” ended at, I felt like i was left hanging, not knowing the answers to where Jack West’s wife and step-son disappeared to. But if the next book does not, I know it will still be awesome. I just want to read more about Moses Lake and it’s people.
