My Thoughts-
Scent of Lilacs (Book 1 in The Heart of Hollyhill series) by Ann H. Gabhart

This book was one of those books that are a quick read and one you don’t want to put down until you’re finished. Just when you think you’ve got everything figured out, there is another twist.

The book takes place in 1964 and is focused around 13 year old Jocie Brooke. It’s always been just her, her dad (who is a preacher) and her great aunt Love. Her mother left when she was young and took her sister, Tabitha away from them. Jocie prayers are focused on two things, on getting a dog and for her sister to come back. Sometimes our prayers are answered in the unexpected way. And Jocie learns way more about her mother, sister and aunt Love then she ever thought she would in just one summer.

There is death, natural disasters, the “prodigal” daughter, a new baby and so much more. But what’s important is prayer is the focus around it all. The book left me hanging and wanting more to the story, I’m so happy this is just the first book in the The Heart of Hollyhill series, I can’t wait for more.

This book is perfect for ages teens and up. If you love a good clean, happy feeling book this one is for you. There is love, mystery, faith, adventure and so much more.
