Jen’s Thoughts-
“Mother’s Curse” by Thaddeus Nowak

When I started reading ‘Mother’s Curse’ by Thaddeus Nowak, I was honestly quite lost and confused. The novel started out of nowhere and I kept telling myself to keep reading for I would find out what was going on. I’m glad I kept reading because I couldn’t put this novel down and now I am on to the next one because I simply have to know what happens next.

Stephenie is a 17 year old princess from a time of castles, war and magic. Her father and brother are off to war to save their beloved country, while Stephenie is locked up in a tower by her mother’s orders. Stephenie is different, she is not your typical princess, as she can fight and stand strong like a soldier. There is also something else that is different, her mother believes she is a curse because she has the ability to do things others cannot. Stephenie escapes, and along the way gets a better understanding of what is going on within her, and around her. Surrounded by brave and loyal friends, she succeeds in her journey.

I really enjoyed this novel because of the characters, and the experiences every character goes through. I found the plot very different, and detailed. I was rooting for Stephenie and could actually feel sadness, anger and bewilderment when she did. I became very attached.

What I didn’t like about the book was the slow and confusing beginning, and the plot took a different angle I was not expecting, and was slightly unsure of, although it became a very important part of the story as a whole.
All in all, I would recommend this novel who anyone who enjoys a good fantasy/thriller novel. I definitely enjoyed this novel and think anyone would enjoy it as well.
