“Hank Has a Dream” by Rebecca Dudley
My kids and I fell in love with Hank the bear when we “read” the book “Hank Finds an Egg”. The first book was wordless but this new one, “Hank Has a Dream” has words and we go on an adventure with Hank and his hummingbird friend as he describes his dream.
Each page layout shows Hank and the hummingbird where they are in reality (on the left) and on the right we have what Hank dreamed. The two images go together. As an example, Hank is on a swing on his tummy in reality. In his dream he is flying high in a balloon.
My kids loved this book. My 5 year old, who is just learning to read wanted to try to read this by herself. The images really helped her figure out the words. Just like the first book, this one encourages my kids imagination.
The photographs are of a forest scene made with what looks like felt, clay and other materials that can be used in small scale models. This makes the book come to life and adds a lot of depth to the story. The illustrations really made me want to get Hank the bear for my kids as a stuffie. He’s just way too cute.
This book would be perfect for anyone who has little kids or works with young kids. It helps with imagination, helps with learning to read and makes a great bed time story.
