This past week has been amazing. On Wednesday I had the opportunity to be part of a teleconference with Kirk Cameron! He was my childhood crush and is now a man I have grown to respect as a Christian. The phone conversation was so much fun. As bloggers we submitted questions we had for Kirk. Some were about his upcoming movie, “Saving Christmas” and others were about his family and past projects. I will post the interview at the bottom of this post, it’s about an hour long but so worth listening to. (warning, there are some movie spoilers in there.). At about minute 37 min 51 sec. Kirk Cameron answered MY question! I couldn’t believe it! I asked him “How do u stay so strong amongst the haters, when you’re sharing your beliefs, especially on social media?” and he answered it with such humbleness and grace. What he said inspired me to be more bold for Christ.
On Thursday I was sent an exclusive link to the movie, “Saving Christmas” by Kirk Cameron. I was so excited to have the chance to see this since the theaters near me aren’t showing it. The movie comes out November 14, 2014 and will only be out for 2 weeks.
“Saving Christmas” starts out with Kirk sitting on a chair by the fire place. He introduces the story to us, then when the actual movie starts he is the narrator. The movie is about a man named Christian, he is fed up with the commercialized Christmas around him. He’s sitting in his living room, while everyone else is celebrating. He is then so upset he goes out to his car. This is when Kirk comes in and talks to Christian. Christian tells him he is tired of all the decorations, the tree, Santa and the whole gift giving thing. Kirk then takes each point Christian talks about and shows him how Christ fits into each of those aspects. Christian is then left with deciding what he will do this this new information, will he continue to sit and sulk or will her join his family?
This was a really cool movie. There were parts of Christmas I never thought of adding Christ to, such as a Christmas tree and also Santa. I also loved the music from this movie and said immediately after watching it, we need to get the CD.
This isn’t a normal format of a movie. It’s more of a documentary movie with a fictional storyline spun in between. There were a few moments it felt awkward with long silence or long narration, but that didn’t make for a bad movie. In fact I can’t wait for this movie to come out on DVD. It will be one I will buy for our family and I will buy one for our Church. This movie would be perfect to watch in a small group setting and then have a good discussion about it.
The movie is ok for kids to watch but they might not understand it all and they might get a bit bored from all the info being presented. I will wait till my kids are in their pre-teen/teens before I show them.
PLEASE go see this movie opening weekend. If the movie theaters sell out, the better chances on it opening in other theaters and the more chances of it staying longer then 2 weeks!!
