“The Good Lie” will be on BluRay & DVD on December 23, 2014. It is based off the events of true-life story of the Lost Boys of Sudan. It shares a story of a group of kids who lost every thing from the civil war. They walk for miles and miles looking for refuge, eventually they find a refugee camp and grow up there. In their early 20’s they are given the opportunity to come to America. The culture shock for them is too much. They have a hard time finding jobs because of the “strange” way they act. They also face being separated because of some rules of hosting the Sudanese people, they must trust strangers to help them get jobs, go to school and be brought all back together. The movie also shows the lack of knowledge of the people in America.
It’s hard to describe the movie and give it great justice in the description. I wish I could put in to words what the movie is about and how it impacted me, I just can’t seems to make it sound right. I am sorry. This movie has deeply impacted me. It’s made me step back, look at how I treat others from other countries. How I should get to know them, their culture and their history through their lives. I think sometimes we are quick to judge people from other countries, others with accents not from around where we are from, and we think they aren’t as smart of us or they are “weird”. This movie really changed my way of thinking. I pray that I will have a more open heart and open mind for others that are different from me.
The title “The Good Lie” comes from a Mark Twain book, when Huck had to tell a lie to keep a friend safe from terrible harm- a good lie.
We really enjoyed this movie. It’s impacted us so much already. The movie is 110 minutes but it didn’t feel that long, in fact we wanted to see more. Thankfully the BluRay special features has deleted scenes to add more to the story, plus is has a special feature called “The Good Lie Journey”. This lets us see a bit more of the why and how the movie was made. The actors are real people from Sudan or their parents where from there, their acting was amazing. We also see how Reese Witherspoon’s involvement from being an actresses to befriended the Lost Boys in the movie.
I highly encourage everyone to watch this movie. Watch it, open your heart to other refugees. Open your mind to other cultures. This movie will touch your heart, make you laugh, make you cry and warm your heart.
