My Thoughts-
“The Pirate and the Firefly: A Boy, a Bug and a Lesson in Wisdom” by Tara McClary Reeves & Amanda Jenkins

Oliver is a young boy who just wants to fit in and be a pirate with the other guys. The other guys act like true pirates, stealing from local shops and ruining other kids toys. Oliver doesn’t feel right about it, but he really wants to fit in. Oliver’s lightening bug friend, Phineas talks with him and helps him see what God would want and reads him Bible verses.

This is a cute short children’s book. It takes you on a little adventure that every kid dreams of, to be a pirate, and shows how you can have fun but still be pleasing to God. At the end of the book there is a full Bible verse and then a Parent Connection page. The Parent Connection page helps us talk about the book and God’s word with our children. There are things to think about and things to do to apply what they learned in this story.

I would say this book would be great for ages 3-10. It’s easy to following along with and great for older kids to read to their younger siblings. I see that there are more books in this series, I’d love to read “The Knight and the Firefly”.
