“Once Upon a Summertime” by Melody Carlson
Anna Gordon has dreamed to be a manager of a nice hotel. However she has been stuck at a run down dump of a motel for the past two years. She then looses her job and has no hope of fulfilling her dreams. Then her good friend Marley tells her of a possible job opportunity in Now York. She applies with really no hope, the last job won’t give her a reference and that was all the experience she had. To her surprise she doesn’t get the job she wanted but was still offered another job, manager of housekeeping. She soon finds out that the one who go the job she wanted as an old friend from her home town, Sean O’Neil. The rest of the story shows us these two learning their new jobs, exploring New York and falling in love (something they aren’t suppose to to do. No in-house romances at the job)
I really enjoyed this book. Except I didn’t like the way ti ended. The last 5 pages felt rushed and left me wishing the book was longer. It really felt like the rest of the book was all about how good Anna would be at her job, then ending the book with them declaring their love for one another, and nothing else. I was expecting more from a romance book. I really fell in love with theses two characters. I wanted to see their relationship grow. I loved seeing them reach for their wishes and they come true. I also liked that the romantic parts were clean and a bit old fashioned.
This is a cute, quick read for your summer reading list. Although it felt rushed I’d still recommend this read. It’s uplifting, carefree and fun.
