My Thoughts-
“Death on Hold A Prisoner’s Desperate Prayer and the Unlikely Family Who Became God’s Answer” By Burton W. Folsom, Anita Folsom

This book is about a man named Mitch Rutledge who killed a man in the 80’s. The book starts out describing Mitch’s upbringing, he never really had any family to raise or support him. He was on the streets fighting to survive. He couldn’t read and his pride kept him from telling potential employers that he couldn’t read and that it meant he couldn’t fill out the applications to work. One day he found himself with a group of “friends” who stole a car with the owner of the car in it. They encouraged Mitch to kill the guy so they wouldn’t get in trouble. So he killed the man. He was sentenced to death. Then TIME magazine came to interview him and deemed him useless, no reason for him to live. They said he killed a man and was too dumb to bring anything to this world. A few people read this article and felt this was wrong. These people started writing Mitch. In turn he started to learn to read and write and in the process he found God. The rest of the story tells us the good he has done in prison. His new friends are sharing his story to give hope to those who think they are worthless. They are also writing this story to show that he is a rehabilitated man that would do good in the world.

This true story really touched my heart. I hope that Mitch will continue to do good in prison and maybe be released from prison. I also pray for each of Mitch’s friends, that they can still be a support for him. Mitch was a boy who had a bad beginning on life but has proved that with Faith you can change your life. Mitch knows he may never be allowed out of prison but he’s determined to do good for the Lord wherever he is. He also hopes to keep others out of prison by sharing his story.

This is a heart warming story of a tragic life. This would be a great book to share in youth prisons and is homes with troubled teens. I believe Mitch’s story will keep many young teens out of trouble.
