I was given a sneak preview of episodes 1 & 2 of “Born This Way” season 2 that will premier on A&E, Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

I’ve never had the chance to watch season 1 of this show but I wish I had. Although my cousin wasn’t born with Down Syndrome, he was born with his brain deprived of oxygen, causing him to have learning disability, as well as social disabilities. I’ll never for get how hard he worked to get his driver’s license, one of the first people he wanted to drive around was me. He was proud of his accomplishment and I was proud he proved everyone wrong, that he CAN do anything he dreams of. It might be harder for him to do and he might go about it differently than other, but with his driving he proved it can be done. “Born This Way” follows 7 friends that all have Down Syndrome. We watch them live everyday life, dating, jobs, learning to live on their own and their interactions with others. They are all in their 20’s and are looking for some form on independence from their parents and family. We also see how the families deal with the challenges of raising a child with a disability.

If you haven’t seen this show yet, I would recommend you do. It will help you understand those who are different than you and it will show you that people with Down Syndrome are just like any other person.

  • I am excited for new episodes of this show. I watched it last season and saw the brief sneak peak this weekend. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for people with Down’s Syndrome. I used to work with them when I was younger.
