“Fit Moms for Life” book review & giveaway

ABOUT-
“Fit Moms for Life: How to Have Endless Energy to Outplay your Kids” by Dustin Maher
FIT MOMS FOR LIFE chronicles the successes of 31 mothers who used Dustin’s fitness and weight loss program with stellar successes. Armed with personal stories with before and after photos, Dustin takes the reader through the five pillars of fitness: Mindset, Nutrition, Strength Training, Burst Training, and Environment. Ultimately leading to the end goal: Staying Fit for Life. “

My Thoughts-
Before I totally start I have to say I am so very excited to share my thoughts on “Fit Moms for Life”.
I learned so much from this book. I thought I knew a lot about health and fitness before reading the book. But I realized there was a lot of things I’ve been doing to sabotage long term weight loss and health. Dustin goes through 3 aspects. Your thoughts, your fitness and your food. You need a right mind set to be able to succeed in a long and healthy life style. You need to be consuming the right kind of foods at the right time. I even learned more about carbs and the importance of fat/protein in my diet and why sometimes my hormones are out of whack. In fact I think the diet part was my favorite and I learned the most from. I can’t wait to implement what I learned here for my whole family. I also learned about fitness and what we think is helping is actually hurting us. I’ve been doing crunches after crunches with no really results, I learned I’m doing it all wrong.
I don’t want to give too much away from this book as I think it’s a great book you should go out and buy and read and share with others. I loved what I learned from this book that I’m actually going to be purchasing Dustin’s monthly “Fit Moms For Life” DVD program. It really sounds like the program for me and I know I’ll see results.
One thing that stood out to me about this book is all the success stories written in between each of the chapter of the book. You can read and SEE the results of real moms being able to life a fit, healthy life. I saw plenty of moms who look like me and have 2-3 kids that have had amazing success using Dustin’s programs.
I really think all moms should read this book and even think about possibly getting one or more of his DVD programs. He understands what moms need and how little of time we have. Plus he has the same “motto” I have, no excuses. You can do this, if you really and truly want it.

“Cooper and Me and the Military” book review & giveaway

ABOUT-
“Cooper and Me and the Military” by Alexa Peters and Monique Peters
“Meet Trooper, Cooper’s best friend, and learn how he was adopted by Gracie and Joe and their parents, who both serve in the military. Find out how this family stays close despite being separated.
A must-read during patriotic holidays and for anyone with friends and family in the military, this book helps children know, that even when loved ones aren’t with us, they still love us and think about us. “

My Thoughts-
We LOVE the Cooper and Me books in our house so we were excited to have the chance to review “Cooper and Me and the Military”. Cooper meets his new friend Trooper. trooper use to be a dog with the military but got hurt. Two people brought him home to their kids to look after them while they are gone. They missed their parents a lot and wrote them some letters, drew some photos and even sent a stuffed dog that looked just like Trooper so they wouldn’t feel lonely either.
This is a very sweet story which made me cry. Lee didn’t understand why I was sad, she said, “the kids have a nice doggie and they sent one to their mommy & daddy, aren’t they happy?”. I explained to her that they would still miss each other and that we should be thankful that there are people out there willing to keep us safe like these parents were.
At the end of the book there is a form that you can fill out to send a thank you to a service man or women. Lee wants to do this and I can’t wait to sit down with her and write it with her. There is also a “Learning together” section where we can sit down and talk about the book and what we learned form it.
Again we LOVE Cooper and Me and this one is now added to our collection of books we love.

“The Devil in Pew Number Seven” book review

ABOUT-
“The Devil in Pew Number Seven” by Rebecca Nichols Alonzo
“2011 Retailers Choice Award winner!
Rebecca never felt safe as a child. In 1969, her father, Robert Nichols, moved to Sellerstown, North Carolina, to serve as a pastor. There he found a small community eager to welcome him—with one exception. Glaring at him from pew number seven was a man obsessed with controlling the church. Determined to get rid of anyone who stood in his way, he unleashed a plan of terror that was more devastating and violent than the Nichols family could have ever imagined. Refusing to be driven away by acts of intimidation, Rebecca’s father stood his ground until one night when an armed man walked into the family’s kitchen . . . And Rebecca’s life was shattered. If anyone had a reason to harbor hatred and seek personal revenge, it would be Rebecca. Yet The Devil in Pew Number Seven tells a different story. It is the amazing true saga of relentless persecution, one family’s faith and courage in the face of it, and a daughter whose parents taught her the power of forgiveness.”

My Thoughts-
This is a true story. A story after reading wasn’t true but at the same time I can see God working in the lives of the people around the Nichols and in the lives of those who hear their story.
The Nichols family lived in a small town. The father was a pastor. Everyone loved him with the exception of one man. This man made it his mission to get rid of this family from this town. He first tired discouraging them and scaring them away with late night phone calls and anonymous letter. When those didn’t work he started setting off bombs outside their house. The Nichols family did not leave. Mr. Nichols said if God wanted him to leave he’d hear it from him, not the devil. The torment went on for years. Even causing emotional damage to the whole family. But they did not leave making this one man even angrier. He started setting off bombs just outside the church during church in hopes others would want the pastor and his family to leave.
Then the family took in a women who needed to get away from her abusive husband. This made the husband mad and that is when the Nichols family lives changed in a way no one could believe. In the end they had to move away. But God was still working in their lives.
This story isn’t all about the tragedy of this family, but about the forgiveness they displayed.
Most of us fell we can’t forgive someone who has wronged us. Whether it’s an unkind word or someone hurt us, we feel it’s our right to hold a grudge. This book teaches you what the will of God is in forgiveness and what this family was capable of with this forgiveness. I don’t want to give away the ending but there was a huge change in the old man that kept bombing the family and I know a lot of it was the act of forgiveness this family gave. What I love too is how the parents raised their children and the impact they had on them for the love of God.
Be prepared when reading this book to feel angry, sad and in awe of the love of God. I read this book while riding my bike and had to stop many times to find a tissue.
I wish this family all the best and want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their story and helping me realize that I need to forgive much.

Molly Moccasins online-books- review & giveaway

ABOUT-
“The Molly Moccasins series was created to inspire young adventurers to explore their everyday realities and surroundings by using their natural curiosity and sense of wonderment—just as Molly does in each story. There is no order to the series, however we think it is a great idea to read, Molly and her Moccasins first so you learn how Molly gets her moccasins and finds her purpose.”

My Thoughts-
WOW, I don’t even know how to begin describing Molly Moccasins except say it’s an all in one educational, fun, and a never bored website.
Molly Moccasins is a series of stories following the life of Molly. Each story can be read out loud or you can turn off the read along part and your child can read it by themselves. During each story Molly will pause to explain a hard word or concept to help your child understand the story even more. You can turn this feature off too if you would like. At the end of each story are a bunch of actives to get your child involved with the story they just read. You have coloring page, puzzles, connect the dot, and so much more. It’s a never ending website of fun and learning.
My 5 year old stopped playing when she heard the story on my computer start. She wanted to know what it was. I showed her and she sat right down and listened to the whole story. She said she loved that she could read along with Molly. She was even more excited to get to do activities afterwards. She then asked for another story and then asked if we can “keep” this website. I told her she gets to use it for as long as she likes and that there will be more stories. She squealed with excitement when she heard this. “Now I can read when you’re reading mommy and not to have to ask you to help me”. Not that I don’t like helping it, but it’s nice to do an activity together and enjoy our books at the same time, every once in awhile. I love reading these stories too and I told Lee that she’ll have to share them with me and help me with the actives. She gave me even more excitement and hugs.
I am HIGHLY impressed with this website and how much it has to offer. I LOVE that my kid loves it and that I can love it too. You can buy individual stories but I’d encourage you to purchase the life-time membership, that way you can read all the new stories that come out right away. And if you’re still not sure if you want to get a membership they offer the first story for free so you can test it out before you buy. You really can’t go wrong.

“THE LEGACY OF EDEN” by Nelle Davy- book review & GIVEAWAY

ABOUT-
“THE LEGACY OF EDEN” by Nelle Davy
“When New York sculptor Meredith Pincetti receives a letter from a law firm, alerting her to the death of her cousin, she is suddenly confronted by her disturbing past—a past she successfully escaped and buried seventeen years ago.
Informed that Aurelia, the once-grand Iowa estate and farm where she was raised, is to be sold at auction to settle her late cousin’s debts, Meredith resolves to return to her family homestead and collect the few possessions that belonged to her parents.
In doing so, Meredith recalls the spectacular rise and disastrous fall of the Hathaway family beginning with her grandfather, Cal’s, dreams and ending with his utter disappointments. We experience her grandmother, Lavinia’s, iron will and ceaseless machinations to ensure that her vision of Aurelia comes to pass. As Aurelia thrives, becoming the largest farm in the county, behind the veneer things are crumbling. Dissipation, brutality and betrayal find fertile ground in the next generation of Hathaways. Seemingly idyllic childhoods precede the exile and return of Hathaways from multiple generations—including Meredith.
And, as Meredith returns to Aurelia, she is forced to confront her own role in her family’s tortured fall from grace. What part did she play in the events that took place during her adolescence two decades earlier? How does her festering relationship with her sisters mirror similar connections between her father’s and grandfather’s siblings? What secrets did she leave behind when she fled Iowa for New York?
Though founded and overseen by male Hathaways, it is the women—Lavinia and her sister-in-law, Piper; Julia, Cal’s daughter from his first marriage; Meredith and her sisters, Claudia and Ava—who play pivotal roles in shaping the events that occur at Aurelia. And, ultimately, it is they who reveal its unspeakable secrets.”

My Thoughts-
“THE LEGACY OF EDEN” took me a bit to get into. There was a lot of story going on but never finishing. But once I got into this book I couldn’t put it down and when I did put it down I was thinking about the book and even dreaming about it. The author Nelle Davy really did an amazing job laying out the background of the Hathaways and their home and farm land, Aurelia. She lays it all out and really draws you in.
The story is told from the view point of Meredith, the granddaughter of Lavinia. A lot of her stories come from the stories she heard from her grandmother, plus some memories she had living on Aurelia.
When I finished this book I told my family/friends that this book was “Amazing, Twisted and crazy, The family in this book will make your family seem normal.”
While reading this book I kept hoping the author would come out with another book about this family. But they way she ended it changed my mind. I think this family needs to be at peace and rest. As much as I would love to hear some more crazy family stories I also was so into this book and had so much feelings for this family that I don’t know if I’d want to feel the hurt for them anymore. I know that sounds crazy but this book really drew me in that much.
I LOVED this book and think if you’re someone who loves reading drama and reading about family history, then you will love it too. Please be aware this is not a Christian book, like some of you are use to me reading. there is very little swearing in it and some sexual innuendos but not a crass book.

“Heart of Ice” book review

ABOUT-
“Heart of Ice” By Lis Wiehl with April Henry
“The Triple Threat Club novels follow three fiercely intelligent women—a TV reporter, a Federal prosecutor and an FBI agent—as they investigate crimes as current as today’s headlines.
The Triple Threat women have faced intense situations before…but never such a cunningly cold-blooded murderer.
Elizabeth Avery is a stunningly beautiful woman. But her perfectly managed exterior hides the ice cold heart of a killer. She ingeniously manipulates everyone who crosses her path to do exactly as she wishes–from crime reporter Cassidy Shaw, who thinks Elizabeth is her new best friend, to a shy young man Elizabeth persuades to kill for her.
As Elizabeth leaves a trail of bodies in her wake, Federal prosecutor Allison Pierce and FBI agent Nicole Hedges must piece together clues from seemingly unrelated crimes. Can they stop her before she reaches her unthinkable, ultimate end-game?”

My Thoughts-
This is an intense, page-turning book. While the FBI and Federal prosecutor try to figure out the murder of a want to be TV reporter and the bringing of a local house. Another TV reporter digs deeper into the case. Little do they know how much they will find in common on these instances or how close they are to the actual murder.
I love the parts where we see the unconditional love Allison has for her drug addict sister and how she isn’t afraid to open up her house for her. Even after Allison’s carriage.
A few things I didn’t like. Was being left hanging on whether or not Allison and her husband will finally be blessed with a child. What happens with Lindsay, Allison’s sister? Does Nicole find God? Will Nicole open her heart to a Man, Leif? What happens with Cassidy’s career after she “makes the news”? These were all questions I was looking forward to having answered as I read and didn’t.
I did love that everything can together in solving all the murders. And how they worked together in different way. And how Allison trusted God in a lot of what she was doing.
I just felt like I was left hanging for a lot of it. Maybe there will be another book? I hope so. I really fell in love with these characters and want to see them more.
This was a great, Christian, women, crime book. If you love a good clean crime book I would totally recommend it to you.
