“The Discovery” book review

My Thoughts-
It took me 2.5 days to read “The Discovery” by Dan Walsh. I’m a very slow reader but this book had me wanting to keep on turning the pages. It gets your heart pumping, you will cry and you will smile.
Michael Warner’s grandfather has past away. He was a very famous author and left a lot of money to everyone in his family. His grandfather, Gerard Warner, left Michael is very large, beautiful house. Michael and his wife, Jenn just can’t believe they are finally living their dream. Michael is now free to write and Jenn can do what she want.
Jenn has to leave for their old home to finish off her last two weeks of work. While Michael is on his own he discovers an old, unpublished story written by his Gramps. It’s about a young man named, Ben. Ben escaped the Natiz by pretending to be willing to go to America and bomb certain places. However, Ben really wanted to go back to his homeland. Once Ben is in America he see this women, Claire and instantly falls in love. The problem is he has to lie to her. If he told her the truth not only would he be in danger of being caught but she and her family would be in trouble. With a series of events 6 months later he has to tell Clarie the truth, the same day she thought her was going to propose to her.
This story Michale’s Gramps wrote is not ordinary story. You’ll figure it out sooner then Michael does, but it’s still really cool to read about and hope for the best. You’re also hoping Michael will figure this secret out too. (Sorry to be so veg, I don’t want to give anything away, it’s better to read it without knowing what’s going to happen)
Although I wish I could have kept reading more about Michael and Jenn and the rest of their family, I was left satisfied with the ending and where it left off.
I would highly recommend this book to ALL. For ages 16+, men and women. Christian and non-Christian book readers. it’s that good of a book. So far it’s my favorite I’ve read this year and I’ve read a lot of books.

“Superfoods For Women Only” book review & giveaway

My Thoughts-
I was very excited to be given the opportunity to read, “Superfoods for Women Only: 20 Vital Foods for Soft Hair, Clear Skin, and Feeling Younger” by Hilary Greenleaf.
The book introduces you to the term “Superfood”. it explains what makes a food a superfood and the benefits it has to your body. It then goes through the different food groups and what would be considered a superfood found in North America or easy to purchase. After the description of the food it explains why it’s a superfood. it then gives you 1-3 recipes you can make using the food.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s one you’ll want to keep on hand for writing your grocery list for the week. I know there are a ton of recipes I can’t wait to make and try out. Quite a few of those I know my kids will love. I found myself marking almost every page to remember to come back to and re-read. It’s that good.
if you’re looking for more foods to help you with your health/weight Loss I would highly suggest this book. In fact I would suggest this book for everyone to read and keep as a reference. I’m happy that there are more and more books out there to help people learn how to eat, what to eat.

“The Lion Cubs” book review

My Thoughts-
I just finished reading “The Lion Cubs” by Chrissy M. Dennis. The book is about two people. Liz, who is in her 30′s, a doctor and lost her husband to cancer 2 years ago. She works double shifts at the hospital to shut herself off to her feelings. She doesn’t realize this until she meets a homeless girl named, Lexi. Lexi is a teenage girl who lost her parents two years ago and has been tossed from one bad foster home to another. She decided to run away from the group home she was at to live in the tunnels with the tunnel kids. Through “random” series of fate the two girls keep running into each other. Liz is drawn to this girl like no other kid she’s ever seen. Lexi, although she doesn’t totally trust Liz, she does trust her more then any other adult. Liz prays daily for this girl. And Lexi believes there can’t be a God because if there was one He must hate her.
This book keeps you going. You keep hoping Lexi will be safe on the streets and your heart breaks for her when she remembers stories of her past. You also hope that Liz will finally be able to finally grieve the loss of her husband.
I totally enjoyed this book. There is a lot of talk about God and who he is and his role in our life. I also fell in love with the characters in this book and want to read more about them. The book is written with the point of view of both Lexi and Liz. When the point of view changes the title of the chapter changes making it easy to keep up with who is talking. I would recommend this book to women ages 16-100+. I loved this book and I hope you will too.

“Noni Says No‏” book review

My Thoughts-
I love getting children books for review. Our family loves to read together and I couldn’t wait till Lee came home from school the day “Noni Says No‏” by Heather Hartt-Sussman arrived in the mail. The second she say the book she started jumping up and down saying, “Noni Says No!!!! I love that book, we have it at school.” So we read it right away together.
Noni doesn’t know how to say “no”. Her best friend asks a lot of her and even though Noni doesn’t like most of what she asks she still says “ok”. But finally one day she had enough and was able to say “no”. She was waiting for her friend to be mad but the reaction was totally different then she thought.
This book teaches that it’s ok to say “no” sometimes. If your friend is really your friend they will understand. Plus as friends you need to learn to compromise with each other so both people will be happy.
This book was totally cute and very silly. It has a great lesson for kids. I would love to see this book in every school and read to each class. It would really be helpful in learning how to talk to each other and teach about speaking up for yourself. I love this book, my kids love this book and I think you will too.

THEMINEFIELDS book review & book tour

JEN’S Thoughts-
THEMINEFIELDS by Steven C. Eisner
From an early age, Sam Spiegel single-mindedly pursued an entrepreneurial path that prepared him to transform his father’s small-time ad agency into a regional powerhouse with national ambitions. A couple decades later, Sam had achieved almost everything he ever dreamed possible, and then it all changed. Unsatisfied with his marriage and embroiled in a mind-boggling professional crisis, everything Sam has achieved is put at risk. Sam must find his way through the minefields around him-and survive.

I’d like to start off by saying I wouldn’t normally read a book like this one so I tried to have an open mind. I found The Minefields is an easy read. It started off great and then got slower throughout until the last 10-15 chapters. I found the author didn’t add much detail to his characters but their personalities came out through the writing. Without realizing it, I became attached to Sam and cheered him on throughout the story. Although the writing was done well, the story line was a little slow.

I’ve been thinking on whom I would recommend this story too and I picture a business man traveling with this book in hand. This book has just enough drama to keep someone interested, but I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers, romance novels, or a fast-paced, intriguing story line.

Excerpt:
He said with great empathy, “I’d give him one right now. There may be a few radical procedures left to preserve his life for another week or two. If you’re asking me, I’d apply a heavier dose an hour after the first.”

Follow along with the book tour and enjoy!!.

Endangered Species, Empowered Communities book series review & giveaway

MY Thoughts-
I received a complete set of books from their Endangered Species, Empowered Communities series from Dot-to-Dot Children’s Books. We were very excited to have a chance to read each of these books. Each book is about a different endangered species and was written by “women and school children from Afghanistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Republic of Congo, and Nicaragua”. There are 8 books in the series and each represent an endangered species in their countries. The women in children take a class to learn about the animal, then each person writes up a story with what they learned. Then the stories are combined to make the story we get to read. This allows everyone to be an author of the book and the money raised with these books go to help the endangered species in their country.
I love how many levels these books help others. I love how it raises awareness of different animals, how it helps women and children feel like they are contributing to the need in their country and how each book will help each animal too.
My oldest daughter LOVES these books. She loved reading the stories with me and then loved learning more about each person who helped write the books. The books have photos of the authors and a blurb about their dreams and goals. The stories draw you in and Lee wants to “meet” the animals someday. The books also have a section with info on each animal and the country they come from.
Not only do I think each house should have a set of these books and that every school should have a set for the teachers to use to teach the students about other countries and endangered animals.
