September 2011- Rogers TV appearance

I had the privilege again to be on Rogers Cable 20 out of Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario area, on the show ‘daytime’, this time with Susan Cook-Scheerer. The show airs LIVE at noon and then re-air at 3, 6 & 11.

I am so happy and honored to be back on ‘daytime’ and to be part of their opening show for their 15th season. The set has changed so much and feels so much more inviting to guests. It’s like chit-chatting over coffee/tea and sharing my thoughts. And this time Lee got to be on with me showing off her new back-to-school items.

In this show I got to talk about back-to-school products for your kids. the first product I introduced was a ColorFusion shirt by Quagmire Kids, a company out of Toronto. The shirt changes color with heat. I love it mainly because it reminded me of my childhood and the color changing shirts I had. So cool and fun to see an old fashion come back around for your children.
The next thing I talked about was The EasyLunchBox System invented by Kelly Lester out of California. We used ours all last year and are very excited to use it again this year. It fits both lunches that the kids need for school and is easy to pack with the healthy foods your kid needs.
The last product I talked about was Friendzip Bracelets. Sharing bracelets and making them for your friends has been around for a long long time. I love this new twist on it. you have two bracelets and zip them in half, you then zip the opposite halves together and you and your friend have matching bracelets. Betty from North Carolina came up with these and they are a hit in our household.

We had a BLAST on the show today and can’t wait to come back again. I might have an opportunity to be on the show in October talking about fitness and health products(nothing confirmed or anything). Can’t wait.

Thank you Rogers Cable 20 and Susan Cook-Scheerer. Also a HUGE thank you to The EasyLunchBox System, Friendzip Bracelets and Quagmire Kids.

I also did reviews of these companies on my blog below are the links to the reviews-

The EasyLunchBox System review

ABOUT-
The EasyLunchbox System makes it simple to organize, and quickly pack healthy lunches. (4) BPA-free, 3-compartment bento food containers and sleek cooler bags make packing on-the-go meals fast, affordable and waste-free! Sized right for kids and adults. Great for school, work, or travel. Container lids stay on but are purposely designed to fit loose enough to be easily removed by little fingers. (…Not leakproof). The containers are recommended to be used with the EasyLunchbox cooler bag, carried upright. Make homemade “Lunchables®” kids will love! Foods don’t “touch”, and just one lid covers all. No more time wasted looking for the right size container & lid or baggie for every item you pack. And EasyLunchboxes make portion control easy – just the right amount of food, without having to weigh or measure your meals. The cooler holds everything needed for a great meal – our container(s), water bottle, ice block, extra snacks, even a thermos. No more wasteful baggies, mismatched containers, or struggles to fit your meal in one bag. The containers are long lasting, reusable, and of much heavier quality than similar ‘take and toss’ products. The sleek and functional, zip-shut insulated cooler will hold even a whole day’s worth of food and keep it fresh. Roomy enough for up to three of our containers.”

My Thoughts-
I wrote a review well over a year ago on The EasyLunchbox System. I’m hear to tell you more of my thoughts about them. Also be on the look out for my upcoming TV review, Sept 6th where I’ll be talking about The EasyLunchBox System.
Lee used her lunch box system everyday at school. I don’t know what we would have done without it. At Lee’s School they have two lunch breaks and with the bag from EasyLunchBox system we were able to easily fit both into one bag. The bag also held up for the whole school year and we will be using it again this year. We also love the compartments in the boxes allowing us to make a full healthy lunch all in one container.
The new school year is starting and it’s time for you to start thinking of lunches and how you will send them to school with your child. I hope you’ll check out The EasyLunchbox System .

Fill Your Own- review

ABOUT-
Fill Your Own offer eco friendly products: stainless steel water bottles, BPA-free stainless steel food containers, reusable lunch bags, litterless lunch kits and folding totes. All our products are carbon neutral.”

My Thoughts-
i got to review both the Fall in Love, 500ml stainless steel water bottle and the Fairy Tea Party, set of 2 stainless steel food containers.
I was so excited to be contacted by Fill Your Own. The first thing they showed me was that giraffe water bottle. I mean, how could I turn them down. And to top it off they are Canadian AND an eco-friendly company. Everything I look for in a company.
I have been using the water bottle for over a week now and I love it. It’s easy to fill and the straw makes is easy to drink out of. I usually have problems with the sport type lids so I love this straw. Plus the artwork is made by a Canadian artist and it’s totally cute.
The steel food containers are perfect for my daughter’s lunch. She loves taking applesauce with her and these containers don’t leak. these too are easy to clean and use. Lee has no problem opening them up either.
I love all the products on Fill Your Own. They even have a lunch kit that includes a bag, 2 steel containers and water bottle. I encourage you to check them out. And being that this is Earthday week, now is the time to purchase your eco-friendly products.

“A Choice for Rose” book review

Synopsis-
“A Choice for Rose- Helping Overcome Childhood Obesity” by Rebecca S. Reed, illustrated by Linda E. Kleinert
“”A Choice for Rose” is an inspiring story of hope and victory over childhood obesity. The book follows Rose’s journey from sadness and low self-esteem to actually having fun while making healthier lifestyle choices.”

My Thoughts-
This is a newly released book and I say it’s about time to have a book that address the issues with childhood obesity.
-
I was excited for this book, as there isn’t a lot of children books touching the subject of obesity and the effects it causes, not only health wise but also socially.
Rose is a young girl who is overweight and does not feel like she fits in. Upon seeing her doctor for her yearly check-up she is told she needs to loose weight in order to be healthy. She goes from sitting in front of the TV eating snacks to going for walks with her mom and finding how yummy fruits and other healthy foods are.
Prior to loosing weight kids in school would whisper behind her back and exclude her from activities. When she come back the next year people didn’t even recognize her and congratulated her on the weight loss.
This story reminded me of one of my friends from Jr High. She was very overweight and was made fun of a lot. She left for a year and came back way lighter and looking so healthy. We didn’t even recognize her at first. I was happy for her.
For me, growing up we didn’t always eat healthy and this has lead me to a unhealthy lifestyle as an adult. I am currently working on changing that for myself and for my kids.
A lot of people don’t want to talk about weight and obesity with kids because we are afraid of giving them a poor self image or lead them to an eating disorder. I on the other hand think we can talk to our kids and help them know what is healthy or not without causing them to worry about their weight. If we start now we can change the views of the future kids, with food and self image. “A Choice for Rose” can help you open up conversation with your children.

“Soup Day” book review (CLOSED)

About-
“Soup Day” by Melissa Iwai
“From choosing the vegetables to picking the pasta shapes, the journey of cooking homemade soup is filled with small learning lessons that are incorporated in a subtle way. Sound, smell, taste and touch combine to pepper the text with the swirl-and-whirl of broth, vegetables, and spices. Carrots become circles, onions become squares, parsley becomes confetti. Yellow onions, white mushrooms and green zucchini sizzle and bubble. With pitch perfect tone Soup Day is a celebration of cooking as a means of spending time together and creating something delicious and healthy in the process.”

My Thoughts-
Did you know that January is national soup month? I’d like to share with you a great children’s book called “Soup Day” by Melissa Iwai.
I love this book from top to bottom. Each page is colorful, and fun to just look at. The story takes us through a day of making soup. From shopping to chopping and enjoying it.
I love that this book teaches kids about eating healthy and how to pick out the healthy foods. Another great point of this book is it helps with counting and shapes. I also enjoy the fact that the child and mom are spending the day together. I feel in this day and age we forget to spend time with our kids and this book not only shows it but shows the family spending time together being healthy.
At the end of the book is the recipe of the soup made in the book. And ti sounds mmmmmm so good.
This book seems to think of everything, I love that the corners are rounded making it friendly for your little one to handle and not worry about them poking themselves. WOW.
I recommend this book to all families. Encourages healthy family time and includes leaning aspects.

Neatnik Saucer- Review (CLOSED)

Neatnik Saucer is the perfect solution to eating out. You don’t have to worry about your child eating off a dirty restaurant table or loosing food on the floor.

“The sturdy rim and toy fasteners keep food and playthings off the ground, eliminating parent frustration and embarrassment over spills and dropped toys. High chair straps fit through openings in the seat liner and should always be used to secure baby in the seat.”

My experience with the Neatnik Saucer:
I found it easy to set up and it was very nice for Moo to eat at and was easy to clean up. The Saucer has a travel bag and it fits nicely in our diaper bag. I also love the “toy fasteners”, I attached a Sippy Cup tie to it and Moo couldn’t throw her cup on the floor. The few things I did not like about it were how hard it was to get Moo’s legs in the leg holes with her shoes on and I also had a lot of problems folding it back up even when looking at the instructions. My husband had an easier time folding it, so it is probably just my problem, lol. Something to note is not all tables/high chairs will work with the Saucer but I found it works with most.

Over all I LOVE it, the few problems I have had are small compared to the benefits of using the Neatnik Saucer. If you have kids or watch kids of the highchair age this is a must have.
